- Granny Smith apples (about 6 cups/1.5 L), peeled, cored and cut into 1/4-inch (5 mm) slices

- 1 tsp cinnamon

- unsalted butter, cubed

- large flake oats
- 125 mL
- 1/4 cup
- packed brown sugar
- 60 mL

- chopped pecans

- prepared unbaked 9-inch pie shell

- prepared caramel sauce

Method
- Step 1
- Toss together apples, granulated sugar, 2 tbsp (30 mL) of the flour, vanilla and cinnamon until combined.
- Step 2
- Stir in half of the cubed butter. Let stand for 10 minutes.
- Step 3
- Stir together oats, brown sugar, pecans, remaining flour and salt; using fingertips, cut in remaining butter until crumbly.
- Step 4
- Scrape apple filling into prepared pie shell. Sprinkle with oat crumble topping.
- Step 5
- Bake in bottom rack of 350˚F (180˚C) oven for 60 to 70 minutes or until apple filling is bubbling, and crust and topping are golden brown.
- Step 6
- Remove from oven.
- Step 7
- Slowly drizzle with caramel sauce while still hot. Let cool before serving.
