Grilled Steak and Onions with Salsa Verde

  • 2/3 cup Sensations Salsa Verde
  • 1 ripe avocado, cut into chunks
  • 1 lime
  • 2 tablespoons Sensations Extra Virgin 100% Olive Oil
  • 13/4-2 pounds Bone-in New York Strip Steak (about 3/4-inch thick)
  • 2 large sweet onions, cut into quarters
  • Salt and freshly ground pepper


  1. Preheat a charcoal or gas barbecue grill to high heat. 
  2. In a bowl, mash together salsa and avocado until smooth. 
  3. Squeeze lime over salsa and mix juice in. 
  4. Set aside.
  5. Brush olive oil over meat and onions; season to taste with salt and pepper.
  6. Lay steaks and onions over heat. 
  7. If using a gas grill, close lid and open vents. 
  8. Cook, turning meat and onions a few times until steaks are done to your liking and onions are browned and softened, 10-12 minutes for rare. 
  9. Onions will begin to separate into layers so remove layers from grill as done.
  10. Transfer meat and onions to a large serving platter. 
  11. Cut meat across the grain into slices. 
  12. Serve with salsa verde mixture to add to taste.
