Southwest Turkey Burgers

Ingredients

  1. 1 lb (500 g) extra-lean ground turkey
  2. 1/3 cup (75 mL) chopped fresh cilantro
  3. 1/4 cup (60 mL) breadcrumbs
  4. 1 clove garlic, minced
  5. 1 egg, beaten
  6. 1 tsp (5 mL) chili powder
  7. 1 tsp (5 mL) ground cumin
  8. 1/2 tsp (2 mL) salt
  9. 1/4 tsp (1 mL) cayenne pepper

Method

  1. In a large bowl, combine turkey, cilantro, breadcrumbs, garlic, egg, chili powder, cumin, salt and pepper. Moisten hands with cold water and shape turkey mixture into four 3/4–in. (2-cm) thick patties.
  2. Preheat lightly oiled barbecue to medium-high. Place patties on grill; close lid and grill until cooked through, 4 to 6 min. per side.
  3. Serve immediately with your favourite condiments and buns.
Tip:
To amp up these burgers even more, serve them with homemade spicy mayonnaise: Stir together 1/3 cup (75 mL) light mayonnaise, 1 tbsp (15 mL) each lime zest and juice, and 1 tsp (5 mL) each chili powder and hot sauce.
