Ingredients

  • 1 lb (500 g) lean ground beef
  • 1/2 tsp (2 mL) each salt and pepper
  • 2 oz (60 g) Oka cheese, sliced
  • 4 slices Sensations by Compliments Maple Smoke Flavoured Peameal Bacon of Canada
  • 2 tbsp (45 mL) Sensations by Compliments Spirited Mickie Mustard and Hops Gold Rush Barbecue Sauce
  • 1 red onion, cut into 1/2-in (1-cm) rounds

Method

  1. Preheat grill to medium-high. Combine ground beef, salt and pepper; do not overwork. Divide into 4 portions; shape into 1/2-in. (1-cm) patties.
  2. Place patties on grill, turning as required, 7 to 9 min., or until meat is no longer pink and instant-read thermometer reaches 160°F (71°C) when inserted into centre. Top each patty with cheese and allow to melt, about 1 min.
  3. Meanwhile, grill peameal bacon, turning as required, until golden and crisp, about 6 min. Brush with barbecue sauce. At same time, grill onions about 3 min. per side until lightly charred and tender. Top patties with the peameal bacon and grilled onions. Serve on buns brushed with additional BBQ sauce, if desired. Also, garnish with your favourite toppings such as pickles, lettuce and tomatoes.
