Butterscotch Sauce

Makes: 250ml


  1. 1/2 cup (125 mL) unsalted butter
  2. 1 cup (250 mL) firmly packed brown sugar
  3. 1/2 cup (125 mL) 35% whipping cream
  4. 1/4 tsp (1 mL) salt
  5. 2 tbsp (30 mL) dark rum


  1. Combine butter, sugar, cream and salt in medium saucepan; bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat to medium and continue to simmer, stirring frequently, 5 to 8 min. until sugar dissolves and sauce thickens and darkens slightly. Stir in rum. Serve with desserts. 

Substitute rum with bourbon. Or use orange juice for a non-alcoholic sauce
