Everyone should be immunized against the flu every year.
Common influenza causes fever, sore throat, cough, chills, headache, and muscle aches. The flu affects 10 – 25% of Canadians each year, 20,000 people are hospitalized and 2,000 – 8,000 die because of influenza-related illness.
Flu vaccination is especially important for adults age 50 or more, and adults with health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, lung disease, and other chronic illnesses. However, regardless of age, a yearly flu shot is recommended for almost everyone.
