Great Opportunities for Pharmacy Students

A Pharmacy Internship will give you practical skills above and beyond your classroom experience. To apply for an internship, you must be enrolled in a pharmacy school program.

We offer summer as well as annual internships in many of our pharmacies in the U.S. and Canada. Our pharmacists will help you train to be a future community practitioner. Select sites are also available for foreign pharmacists who have passed the FPGEE and have work authorization.

Pharmacy Student Loan Program

We provide financial assistance for pharmacy school students who are interested in working for Safeway upon graduation as licensed pharmacists in the United States or Canada. Loans will be provided (based on satisfactory completion of courses in a pharmacy program) in the amounts of $5,000 or $10,000 annually. $5,000 loans are available in all of our operating areas. $10,000 loans are available only for our difficult-to-staff openings. Students are eligible for only one loan per calendar year and only three loans while in pharmacy school. Loans will only be provided for courses in the final three years of a North American Pharmacy School. The specific amount of any loan extended under this program will be in Safeway's sole discretion. Loan funds are to be used toward tuition, books and fees only.

To obtain a "difficult-to-staff opening loan" a student must sign a promissory note (legally binding contract) agreeing to work one year as a full-time pharmacist in a specific geographic area. Seniors will be provided a list of openings in March prior to graduation. Positions are currently available in Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, California, Maryland, Oregon, Washington, and Canada.
